State Performance & Best Practices for the Prevention and Reduction of Underage Drinking 2024

The 2024 Report to Congress on the Prevention and Reduction of Underage Drinking includes national data on underage drinking patterns, the federally coordinated approach on underage drinking prevention and treatment, and information on the National Media Campaign: "Talk. They Hear You."®

This report provides guidance to decision-makers about how to identify and select the intervention(s) that will best serve their state or community, as required by the STOP Act.1 The STOP Act also requires the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage Drinking (ICCPUD) to include in the report measures of states’ use of best practices in preventing and reducing underage drinking.

The 2022 Report to Congress on the Prevention and Reduction of Underage Drinking (2022 RTC) focuses on underage alcohol use, as required by the Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking Act (the “STOP Act”).

This report provide guidance to decision-makers about how to identify and select the intervention(s) that will best serve their state or community, as required by the STOP Act. The STOP Act also requires that the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage Drinking include in the report measures of states’ use
of best practices in preventing underage drinking.

This fact sheet is to inform parents how to effectively talk to their young adult about the risks of underage drinking.
